Anyone else think that this was another one of the greatest shows ever made?

Funny thing- ya'd think I'd love this show...but I could never get into it- it puts me to sleep! Just doesn't hold my interest.

Really?! I just love Andy Griffith, that's my safe place. What I'd do to just find Mayberry.

it is a great show. i think ol' rich don't know what he's missin' because it's such a wholesome show. when i watch it i laff an' i cry. like ol henry says about aitf, sometimes u don't know which is greater, the lump in the throat or the laff.

u gotta love all the characters in TAGS, even Barney who's so fragile and needy, but always trying to play the tough guy. That ep where ol Barn accidentally captures the escape con makes u feel bad for Barney b/c u can feel how scared he is when the state police tell him the guy escaped again & is coming after him. just like the ep where our ol' barney heffner threatens to clean Fife's clock if he ever catches him outta uniform...Deputy fife talks plenty big, but he don't never dare take off that uniform!

the funniest of all the funny eps is Mountain Wedding. Ernest T. Bass shoulda won every award possible for his work in that ep. Andy & Barney are at their best too in Mountain Wedding. i can have a horrible day or just be in a bad mood and the "Old Aunt Mariah" serenade will have me laughing and rewinding every time!

Gomer: "This is my cousin Goober. He takes off on Carey Grant. Do it, Goober."
Goober: OK, Judyjudyjudy.
Gomer: Hahahaha! Doggone how you do that! I can't do it!

Thanks for the rememory, dair. I think i'll fish out ol Andy next weekend.

Ya know, Karla, I TRIED to like The Andy Griffith Show...because I love Don Knotts, and his character in the show- but I just can't can't get into it! (IMO, Joyce DeHalfWitt and John Ritter weren't the stars of Three's Company...Don Knotts and Norman Fell were!!)

[And I couldn't stand Suzanne Sommers...or that other dame that they had for a while...but that Prescilla Barnes was pretty hot....eh, guys?]

You just gotta love Andy Griffith. THe wholesomeness and the strong friendship between andy and barney.

Oh man, them blondes were all pretty alright on three's company. And you're right Don Knotts and Norman Fell made that show!

I gotta agree with most of youse (except Rich who doesn't care for it) that the Andy Griffith Show is great! It always gives me a "warm & cozy" feeling when I watch it...it's so indicative of a simpler time long since gone by. What's also cool about it is that there is always an underlying "moral of the story" thing going on-and I especially like the intimate moments between father & son (Opie)! And Barney's character is SO funny! What a screwup-but with a BIG heart! And good 'ole Andy is always there for him (picking up the pieces)!

Yeah, it was a brilliant show. I actually don't own ANY of the seasons, but plan on aquiring them in the near future!

Oh Sheryl don't get me started on those father & son moments! Ever see "Opie the Bird Man?" I get all teary every time.

How about the one where Opie pouts about losing the race and Andy tells him how he's ashamed of him? When Opie goes to the courhouse to tell Andy that he doesn't want him to be ashamed of him, my eyes jus' puddle right on up when Andy lifts the little feller an' hugs him!

'll tell u somethin' else. There's an ep in Gomer Pyle USMC where Op runs away from home to join the marines w/Gomer. When Andy shows up, before Sgt. Carter takes him to see Opie he pleads w/him not to whip the poor kid. That moment when father & son are quietly standing there face ta face...my goodness! If I had a son I'd want him to be Opie-like. Don't laff...I was at Appleby's last week and the waiter's name was Opie. Guess his maw felt the same way.

(((Karla listens to the Opie & Anthony show on the radio, expecting to find Mayberry-esque wholesome entertainment...and has a heart attack)))

O&A:

It's funny- a lot of people that know me, expect me to like Andy Griffith and The Dick Van Dyke Show and a few others like that....and you'd think that I would...but I just can't get into them. They just don't hold my interest. But if it makes ya feel any better...I always loved Father Knows Best.....and The Courtship Of Eddies Father(You'd love that one Karla! Bill Bixby as a single dad, rasing Eddie[Brandon Cruz] and they have a Jap maid!)-from the 60's- really cute!
